Water-based ink systems for decorative surface printing — on paper and film, built for the lamination step
Decor paper, PU paper and PVC, PP and PET film are printed today and laminated tomorrow, so the ink must survive lamination heat, plasticizer and aging — not just look right at the press. chemlinkai develops gravure and flexo ink systems from in-house waterborne resins and validates them on your substrate before volume supply.
Who it is for
Decor and furniture surface printers running gravure or flexo on impregnated decor paper, PU paper, or PVC, PP and PET decorative films. Typical users are converting plants that supply laminate and panel makers, where the printed reel must survive a lamination press at defined heat and pressure.
The hub also fits coating lines that want one supplier across ink, primer and varnish roles, and engineers standardizing surface decoration on water-based systems. If your plant switches between paper and film jobs within a shift, the challenges below are the ones we hear first.
Which production problems do decor printers bring to us?
- Adhesion loss on PVC film after lamination heat or plasticizer migration — we screen surface energy, plasticizer load and binder selection in that order, then benchmark against your release standard.
- One press, many substrates: switching between decor paper and PET or PVC film without rebuilding the whole ink set — we check which roles can share a system and which cannot.
- Rub, scuff or blocking on the printed reel before lamination — we look at overprint varnish, coating weight and the drying curve first.
- Foam, pinholes or missed dots at higher press speeds — the fix is usually surfactant balance and resin selection at the formulation level, not a press-side additive.
- Color consistency across batches and between bases — dispersion quality, strength targets and measurement discipline are handled as one workflow.
- Coating weight and holdout variation on sized paper — we adapt the primer role and test on your actual reel.
Recommended system
System roles in a typical decor printing structure. The exact grade is selected per project during application testing.
| Layer / step | chemlinkai system | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Decor paper (sized, impregnation grade) | Primer / holdout system | Wetting of the sheet, coating holdout and the anchor for the printed layer |
| PU paper | PU-paper ink system | Adhesion to the PU surface and flexibility through the finishing steps |
| PVC decorative film | PVC film ink system | Adhesion under lamination heat, plasticizer resistance and film flexibility |
| PP / PET decorative film | PP / PET film ink system | Adhesion on treated film, block resistance and heat behavior in lamination |
| Printed layer (gravure or flexo) | Water-based ink system | Color strength, dot definition, rub resistance and drying on your line |
| Overlay protection | Varnish / top coat system | Scuff, heat and chemical resistance of the finished surface |
System roles are described functionally and mapped to your structure during application testing. Current documentation is released after final verification.

Common questions
Can one ink system run on decor paper and PVC film in the same shift?
Not as a drop-in replacement. Paper, PU paper and PVC film differ in surface energy, porosity and plasticizer load, so we qualify each substrate family separately. In lab matching we tell you where one system can cover two substrates and where a separate system is the honest answer.
How is lamination heat resistance validated before supply?
Through application testing under your lamination conditions — temperature, pressure, dwell and aging. Results are reported per test. We do not state general guarantees that depend on your line.
Can you benchmark against the ink we run today?
Yes. Send a sample of your current ink plus your substrate. We run our candidate against your material under the same conditions and report the difference before you commit.
Which documents come with a trial shipment?
TDS, SDS and batch COA, plus a compliance statement where applicable. They are released after final verification for the confirmed system; request the current version through the form.
Where are your inks manufactured?
Manufacturing bases are in Hangzhou, Lishui, Linyi and Guigang, with formulation and application development in the Hangzhou R&D institute. As of September 2026.
